This video shared by the Brigham and Women’s Hospital explains that research has found that changes in the brain of Alzheimer’s patients begin years, even decades before the person has any symptoms of the disease. PET scans can now show the build up of amyloid plaques and tau tangles, which are known to be the cause of Alzheimer’s disease. This breakthrough will help researchers to come up with treatments and therapies that can help slow down the build-up of amyloid and tau and halt the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
