This video from AP Digital Products takes viewers on a 360º virtual reality tour of the brain. The film shows how neurons are linked by thousands of pathways in the brain that control thought, emotions, memory and movement. It then explores the changes in the brain which lead to the onset of Alzheimer’s disease: plaques and tangles.
Together, these plaques and tangles begin to slow down the neurons and eventually kill them off, leading to some of the classic symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers believe that tangles and plaques are present for many years before their destruction becomes apparent. The damage typically starts in the hippocampus area of the brain, which is responsible for forming memories, and then continues to progress throughout other areas of the brain leading to the shrinkage of the organ.
