According to a report on Bangor Daily News, Yarmosky has been painting pictures of his grandparents for many years. When his grandmother, Elaine Bard, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2013, the 89-year-old insisted her grandson continue to paint her for the rest of her life to hopefully capture a portrait of the disease.

The show, called “Somewhere,” opened May 19 at the University of Maine Museum of Art in Bangor and will remain on display until September 2. The museum is also holding a summer series of talks and workshops in order to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, along with the role art can play in healing.
